SN-03A
Subject Class: Tierra
Status: Training device
Control Procedures:
SN-03A is kept within large sized soundproof cell next to Base 055-09F training course. The Cell is split into two parts via iron bars. Both sections are accessible through a door. The half actually containing SN-03A is only accessible from the inside of the facility while the other half, called the antechamber, is only accessible through the training course. A team of workers must enter the cell and destroy the wooden structure on a daily basis. Basic construction utensils have been provided.
No cadavers of any kind are to be brought into SN-03As cell, unless authorized by three members of Beta cell or one member above. Manually ringing SN-03A must also be authorized by three members of Beta cell or one member above.
Training instructors of Base 065-03C may request bodies from the morgue to cells antechamber. Mortuary staff reserves the right to decline said requests.
SN-03A generally finds its use in training entry level combative personnel, who are tasked to nullify a SN-03A activation. Furthermore, new surgical staff can be tested on SN-03As victims.
Description:
SN-03A is a 17th century church bell made from bronze1. The bell bears the Inscription Miles IV Graye 1660, referencing its founder dynasty and year of creation. However, the dynasty crumbled with Miles Graye the third, ultimately calling the identity of the founder and the authenticity of the inscription into question. Furthermore, the phrase "audite me qui non potestis mortem sustinere'' has been cast into the bell, roughly translating into "Hear me, you who cannot bear death."
SN-03A grows a wooden structure around itself. This structure will always be a place of worship such as a church or a mosque with its architecture being dependent on the demographics of the bells rough geographical location². Small pieces of wood appear around the object and slowly expand their size. At first, they resemble pieces of driftwood, only morphing into their needed shape once they reach a roughly equivalent volume. If a piece of wood is displaced by an outside party, it will attempt to move back into its position in a slime mold like manner. The type of wood the structure is made out of is similarly based on the item's location. It is noted that objects that are typically made from materials other than wood are either substituted by wooden alternatives or are not present at all2.
SN-03A possesses the ability to reinvigorate and rearrange cadavers of complex organisms. When the bell chimes, up to 12% of a cadaver within the bell's audible range will revert into totipotent, amoeboid cells. These cells work in unison to reanimate the rest of the body. This sometimes requires major restructuring and repurposing of organs. Parts of the body may be consumed in order to provide the materials needed. Certain cases even showed bodies being merged together in order to create a viable organism. The object has the ability to ring on its own accord without any discernible trigger. Once the wooden structure has been completed, it changes its behaviour to ring at every full hour. To be eligible for reanimation the cadaver must be mostly intact. Exact details vary from species to species and injury. Some ground rules could be established, such as that some of the subjects neural tissue needs to be somewhat intact and Autolysis shouldn't have caused irreparable organ damage.
Reanimated corpses, referred to as Zombies, are extremely hostile to complex life and will usually attack on sight. Methods of attack are based on the zombies physical capabilities, but generally boil down to biting, slashing and punching. Curiously, roughly 10 % of reanimated show abnormal behaviour. These abnormal instances seem more intelligent and typically employ basic hunting strategies. Abnormal instances have also been reported to transport fresh kills closer to SN-03A. Since zombies never engage in activities that could possibly increase their lifespan, they typically expire in around 3 to 10 hours. The remains of zombies may fall under the influence of SN-03A again. It is noted that all zombies are generally harmless to an adult human, due to them expending most of their energy during reanimation.
