I do not know the other formats that well. I have not read this when it was new. This sounds like SCP. I am missing context. I am missing the Insurgency.
Maybe I should start to read again.

That's because this is pretty much an Insurgency-POV take on SCP-173 "The Statue", the first SCP to have ever been writen. I do share most of your criticism though, just because it started this whole shebang (though notably not the genre in an of itself) does not mean it did so good or competently.
