I could also say that the creature that moves when your not looking is a trope too. 173, weeping angels, or monsters that are too shy to move when looked at. They are all part of a trope too, but that doesn't mean we should have an item that does that.
Comparing shanalick to 035 is like comparing 173 to a weeping angel. They have both differences and similarities. 173 snaps necks, weeping angels send you back in time, 173 leave shit and blood everywhere, weeping angels don't, there is only one 173, there are a heck of a lot more weeping angels. They have enough differences that you can't say that they are the same creature with a new skin.
But when I read shanalick, I did think that it was very similar to 035. And so if we do get more members from the scp foundation who are very familiar with the concept of 035 (probably more than they are with one of the best movies of all time), they might look at this and 035 and see something similar.
Hell, the fact that this even needs to be argued about is a pretty good sign that it needs a rewrite. You have some people who see the uncanny resemblance, and you have some people who don't. But if that statistic keeps up, there will be a lot more on each side. Meaning more people who think it's a ripoff and arguing about it, and more people arguing that it's not. I think it will cause more problems in the future than this little argument, but if you think differently I won't try and sway you any more than I already have.
