Usage
Catfood is sourced locally based on a need to use basis. Due to the relative abundance of Catfood when compared to their demand, no instances are produced by the Insurgency themselves, rather, they are collected from the worlds civilian population.
Various cells have started to assign the collection of Catfood to or otherwise low ranking field operatives, as a form of hands on training.
It has proven useful in the enrichment of multiple hostile entities and cryptids.
Additionally, Catfood has found various different applications, such as weapons testing, bait, occult applications, and Halloween decoration. Plans to construct a power-plant utilizing Catfood as it main fuel, have been drafted but never implemented due to theoretically yields being outclassed.
Report
Catfood refers to the human victims of a rare hunting behavior displayed by cats. This behavior is most often seen in the common house cat, Felis catus. However, edge cases have shown that other kinds of Felines are also capable of displaying said behavior, to the point where it is assumed that every Feline is capable of creating Catfood.
The creation of another instance begins with the selection of a target, later refereed to as the subject. The conversion process is often times initiated by the pet of the victim, but can be initiated by any cat. No distinct trigger for this behavior has yet to be identified, however, the following has increased the likelihood of being targeted.
- Emotional distress
- Recent major life events
- Toxoplasmosis Gandia
- Having a close bond with a cat
During the early stages of the conversion cats are much more affectionate towards their target, seeking it out. This is often times mirrored by unrelated felines, giving the impression that the subject is good with cats. This leads the subject to cohabitate with the cat. No supernatural form of coercion is used during that process. This behavior changes once a critical mass of cats, usually nine adult individuals, has gathered at the victims living space.
Once critical mass is reached, the cats start to produce an amnestic chemical, that is execrated in the cats lower back area and via spit and excrement. Humans exposed to this chemical experience gaps in memory and a decline in the their social functions. During this time, the cats will start to play rough, repeatedly inflicting small cuts to ensure that the amnestic is administered. At this point, subjects will typically start to look exhausted and have a distinct odour.
After around a month all cats will congregate around the sleeping subject, before engaging in various indulgent acts of violence and copulation. The resulting thaumatological spike will ensure the subjects transformation into Catfood.
The Item resembles the human it was crated from in suspended animation. If an instance of Catfood is damaged in any way, all parts will slowly reform into their original state. This effect extends to wounds the subject had at the time of their passing. Trace amounts of Nepetalactone cataria can be found in all of their body fluids. Catfood has a heartbeat, but does not breath.
Despite being made up from living tissue, Catfood will begin to rot, albeit at an extremely slow rate. It is currently hypothesized that one instance takes around 300 years to decay to a state where it could be considered dead.
